JAY-Z Announces “4:44″ Tour Dates

With the corporate machines of Sprint, TIDAL and Live Nation behind it, JAY-Z’s tour is coming to an arena near you. Roc Nation initially teased the extensive run on Sunday (July 9) in an Instagram post, but has now officially unveiled the dates for all 31 shows scheduled in both the United States and Canada.

JAY, of course, is touring in support of his recently released 13th studio album, 4:44, which has garnered both praise and criticism — most notably from 50 Cent who called it “Ivy League shit.” Fiddy’s comments appeared to spark a response from Public Enemy’s Chuck D who tweeted, “So some people are saying @s_c_album is too smart. What level does a 47 year old man supposed to spit at? Club sht? What kind of club? lol.”

Regardless of one’s feelings towards the 10-track offering (the physical copy of the album comes with three bonus tracks — “Adnis,” “Blue’s Freestyle/ We Family” and “ManyFacedGod”), Hov plans to bring it live to the stage before the year is up. The tour kicks off on October 27 in Anaheim, California and ends on December 21 in Los Angeles.

Kanye West Reportedly Splits With TIDAL

Kanye West has decided to end his contract with TIDAL over what is reportedly millions of dollars owed to him by JAY-Z’s streaming music service. While some have speculated the row is over Hov’s recent jabs at Yeezy on 4:44, the tension has apparently been brewing behind the scenes for some time.

According to TMZ, West’s attorney sent a letter to TIDAL stating there was a breach of contract and announced a termination of the deal. West is reportedly owed more than $3 million and the parties attempted to work out a favorable deal. After weeks of haggling, West’s attorney sent another letter finalizing their decision that the deal was over.

While the timing of this revelation is curious given JAY-Z’s bars on the 4:44 opening track “Kill Jay Z,” which finds the business mogul taking sharp aim at his Watch The Throne collaborator, the legal maneuvers took place well before the release of the track and West reportedly knew nothing of the song prior to last Friday (June 30). (That said, album producer No I.D. told the New York Times that the album was only finished the day before its release, so it’s possible the inclusion of Jay’s barbs were a game-time decision.)

West’s desire to split also stems from the fact the exclusive TIDAL release of The Life of Pablo hauled in 1.5 million new subscriptions, which was supposed to earn him a bonus. West also said the service has failed to pay him back for videos he produced, but TIDAL fired back by saying West didn’t deliver on his end.

It appears TIDAL is preparing to sue if West takes his new music to another streaming service, which will undoubtedly spark a long legal battle.

As of publishing, West’s music is still available on TIDAL.

MULTIHOP.TV HIGHLIGHTS Apple Blocked Drake’s Performance At ‘Lil Weezyana Fest’ From Streaming On Tidal.

Screen Shot 2015-08-29 at 7.10.51 PM

Tidal exclusively streamed Lil Wayne’s “Lil Weezyana Fest” in New Orleans last night (August 28), and Tunechi brought out several guests including Juvenile, Turk, Mannie Fresh, and Master P. But when Wayne was ready to bring his Young Money artist Drake to the stage, the live stream cut off.

Apple threatened to sue Tidal for $20 million if the platform streamed Drake performing. The Toronto native sign a reported $19 million exclusive deal with Apple. This fight comes after Tidal financier Jay Z suggested Apple was running a smear campaign against his company back in April.

MULTIHOP.TV HIGHLIGHTS Sept 7th 2015 Release Date for Prince New Album, HITNRUN, on TIDAL

Multi-platinum music icon Prince, and global music and entertainment platform TIDAL, confirmed that the next release from the entertainer will be exclusively on TIDAL on September 7, 2015.

The Prince/TIDAL partnership has been in the works for some months, but was quickly cemented out of mutual admiration and respect and a profound belief in artists’ rights.  The relationship began in May with TIDAL live streaming the first hour of Prince’s RALLY 4 PEACE concert in Baltimore.  TIDAL hosted live audio of the event and matched funds for donations made on TIDAL.com.

JAY Z added, “Prince has always been a visionary, a free-thinker.  We’re honored to offer his breadth of work, “1999,” “Purple Rain,” etc., music that has inspired so many, on TIDAL.  We’re also excited to be the home for his new upcoming album, HITNRUN.  Both Prince and TIDAL share the belief that all creatives should have the opportunity to speak directly to those that love and support them.  This partnership with Prince represents TIDAL’s philosophy in its truest form, a 1 to 1 connection and direct delivery of artistry to the world.”

MulTIHOP.TV HIGHLIGHTS Prince Removes All Music From Streaming Services Except Tidal

Screen Shot 2015-07-19 at 12.07.36 AM

Prince  removed all of his music off all streaming platforms except for Tidal emerged. “Prince’s publisher has asked all streaming services to remove his catalog,” Spotify posted on its Prince page. “We have cooperated with the request, and hope to bring his music back as soon as possible.” Prince, who was one of the initial innovative artists to sell music online through his NPG fan site in the early ’90s, has routinely made it clear he’s no fan of digital music.

“I personally can’t stand digital music. You’re getting sound in bits. It affects a different place in your brain. When you play it back, you can’t feel anything. We’re analogue people, not digital.” Prince says.

Prince released a new track on his SoundCloud today titled “Hardrocklover.”

MULITHOP.TV HIGHLIGHTS Cash Money Sues TIDAL for $50 Million Over Lil Wayne

Screen Shot 2015-07-17 at 12.04.30 AM

Cash Money Records is suing Jay Z’s streaming service TIDAL for streaming Lil Wayne’s album FWA. Cash Money claims it has exclusive rights to Wayne’s music and TIDAL is an illegal inter-meddler.

Cash Money calls out TIDAL for resorting to “a desperate and illegal attempt to save their struggling streaming service.”

TIDAL responds to the claim, saying that Cash Money does not have an exclusive lock on Weezy and that he gave it the right to stream his music, in return for an ownership stake in the company.

However, Cash Money begs to differ and cites its contract with Wayne, which specifically states Wayne does not have the power to license his music to anyone else.

Cash Money also takes shots at Wayne’s FWA, saying it got “tepid reviews” and could hurt Cash Money’s attempts to exploit Wayne’s music.

Just yesterday, Birdman was named in an indictment involving the April shooting of Lil Wayne’s tour buses. In January, Wayne filed suit against Birdman and Cash Money for $51 million.

Lil Wayne’s long-awaited 15-track project is available exclusively on Tidal. The 15-track FWA features appearances by Young Jeezy (“White Girl”), Wiz Khalifa (“Feeling Right”), Young Money associate Cory Gunz, Jim “CAPO” Jones and Black Uhuru’s Junior Reid (“Murda”), singer/songwriter Jake Troth (“My Heart Races On”), “B*tch Better Have My Money” writer Bibi Bourelly (“Without You”) and others.

“I honestly gotta say that this #FWA album is my best work yet! I won’t let u down as a fan,” Weezy tweeted in April. “Dis sh!t is a beast! Ok let me get back 2da booth.”
