Hip-Hop Reacts To The Passing Of New York Dance Star Voodoo Ray

The passing of New York dance legend Raymond “Voodoo Ray” Ultarte has rocked the Hip-Hop nation after news began to spread via social media Tuesday (Oct. 18). Over the course of a three-decade career, Voodoo Ray starred in a number of videos and was a fixture in the city’s dance and club scene.

Throughout his career, Ray, Ray, born name Raymond Ultarte, showcased his top-tier footwork in visuals for some of the biggest musicians in the world, including the likes of JAY-Z (“Sunshine”), MC Lyte (“Ice Cream Dream”), Run-DMC (“It’s Like That”), Mariah Carey (“Honey,” “The Roof”), Wyclef Jean (“Trying to Stay Alive,” “Pussycat”), Backstreet Boys (“Larger Than Life”), Black Moon (“Two Turntables & a Mic”), Bounty Killer (“It’s a Party”), Rah Digga (“Party and Bullshit”), Nikki D (“Wasted”), Busta Rhymes (“Put Your Hands Where My Eyes Can See”), Cuban Link (“Scandalous”), Doug E. Fresh (“Busting Out”), Monie Love (“Born 2 B.R.E.E.D.”) and more.

A fixture of the N.Y. nightlife, helped book countless DJs to spin at parties over the years. He also made a name appearing in music videos throughout the 1980s, 1990s and 2000s. Along with DJ Tony Touch, Ray also hosted NYC’s famous Funkbox dance parties.

MC Lyte Gets Married One Year After Prayers for Her to Find a Husband

Hip-hop pioneer Lana “MC Lyte” Moorer is officially married one year after people prayed for her desire to be a wife.

MC Lyte, 46, married a Marine Corp veteran and entrepreneur named John Wyche in Jamaica over the weekend at the Sandals Royal Caribbean Resort in Montego Bay, according to Essence. Just one year before her star-studded wedding took place where the guest list included rapper YoYo, rapper and actress Niatia ” Lil Mama” Kirkland, singer Kelly Price and singer Coko of R&B group SWV, a group of women gathered to pray for Lyte’s future husband.

Lyte, the co-founder of the hip-hop Sisters Foundation, hosts a women’s retreat called the W.E.A.L.T.H. Experience with celebrity guests and panelists each year. There, women come together to work on their goals in their personal and professional lives.

MC Lyte Announces Engagement After Finding Love Online

Earlier this year, MC Lyte pried back the shield on her private moments to share that she found the love of her life after meeting him on an online dating service. Now, the legendary rapper announced that she’s engaged.


Rock — born Lana Moorer — revealed that she felt this is the right time to share her life with someone significant. “Just being alone, being single in Los Angeles, California,” she said. “That is a hard thing to do for a black woman, to date and it be authentic and true. I think when you are present and you’re aware, it opens you up.” More details are outlined in her upcoming book, Your Man & Your Money.
