As Cardi B continues to dominate her breakout year, the Love & Hip Hop: New York star was honored with multiple awards at the taping of the 2017 BET Hip Hop Awards in Miami on Friday (October 6).
The Bronx native, who was accompanied by boyfriend Offset of Migos, took home three awards for Hustler of the Year, Single of the Year and Best New Hip Hop Artist.
During the ceremony, Cardi also performed her #1 Billboard Hot 100 single “Bodak Yellow.” She was also joined onstage by fellow members of the rap community, including DJ Khaled, 2 Live Crew’s Luther “Uncle Luke” Campbell and Rick Ross.
Reality TV fixture no more – Cardi B has officially arrived as a legitimate, bankable hip-hop act.
The rapper’s single “Bodak Yellow” has been making waves in the month since its initial release, breaking into the Top 20 on Billboard’s Hot 100 chart. Now, she’s hit a new music milestone, finding her song inside the Top 10 on Billboard’s Hot Hip-Hop and R&B chart. Moving up four spots since last week, she’s now ranking higher than 21 Savage, Lil Uzi Vert and Future on the Hip-Hop chart, with no signs of slowing down anytime soon.
It’s rarefied air for a female emcee, much less one with Cardi’s relative lack of experience. He’s the highest-charting woman on an unassisted rap track (i.e. – no features) since Nicki Minaj‘s “Anaconda” went all the way to No. 2 on Billboard’s Hot 100 back in 2014. If her song continues to show strong gains in terms of its numbers, she could soon join the ranks of Missy Elliott, Eve, Foxy Brown, Lauryn Hill and other female emcees who’ve cracked the Top 10 list for the hottest songs in the United States.
According to Hits Daily Double, “Bodak Yellow” has also shown very strong streaming gains since last week and was also the biggest crossover radio add for the period ending August 8th, beating out 21 Savage’s “Bank Account” in the process. It’s safe to say that Cardi B is reaching unprecedented heights.
